Are you considering a spiritual pilgrimage to Kirtland?
Why a Spiritual Retreat?
A spiritual retreat is an opportunity to more intentionally take time to draw closer with God. You can go on retreat as an individual or in a group. For groups, teams, or congregations, spiritual retreats can be a time to discern, vision, experience, and grow closer as a community.
“To be a pilgrim means to be on the move, slowly- to notice your luggage becoming lighter- to be seeking for treasures that do not rust- to be comfortable with your heart’s questions- to be moving toward the holy ground of home with empty hands and bare feet.” -Macrina Wiederkehr, Seasons Of Your Heart
Prior to arriving in Kirtland, there are many things that you or your group can do to prepare yourselves spiritually and immerse yourself in a pilgrimage in everyday life. Based on the theme of your retreat, the Spiritual Formation Center can create preparatory materials for or with you.
If you are seeking a historic pilgrimage to Kirtland, there is a wonderful resource developed by Barbara Walden and Bruce Crockett that connects the history of the Kirtland Temple with spiritual practices, stories and preparatory readings.
